The Ministry of Science and Education of the Russian Federation has sent to secondary schools in Russia a recommendation list consisting of 100 books that officials advise students for extracurricular reading. The list includes works such as "12 chairs" (Ilf and Petrov), "Scarlet Sails" (Alexander Green), "And the day lasts longer than a century" (Chingiz Aitmatov), "The Wizard of the Emerald City" (Alexander Volkov), stories by Sergey Dovlatov other.

In addition to works of art, children are recommended to read individual works on history and culture. For example, the two-volume book “Russia. Success story ”by the author Alexander Goryanin and“ Conversations about the Russian culture ”by Yuri Lotman.

As stated by the Director of the Department of Public Policy in the Ministry of Education and Science Elena Nizienko, the list is not a dogma. These are works that every person who considers himself cultural should simply read. "You can use it for extracurricular and extracurricular work, as well as for discussions with students."

According to Nizienko, the project is an attempt to show the children the diversity of our country and, above all, the diversity is ethnic. She highlighted the fact that the recommendation list will be regularly updated. “As is known, it is customary to update the school standard once every ten years, at least. I think this list will be updated in the same way. Of course, in the case of a sudden literary boom, we will reconsider our position, ”said E. Nizienko. Recall that the initiator of creating a list of works recommended for schoolchildren for extracurricular reading was President Vladimir Putin.
