Each coin collector must properly clean them, this may be necessary if the metal money has oxidized, has been in the ground for a long time, covered with organic substances. Completely peeled products are covered with a protective layer of patina, they look good again, on them

Shine of metal and all elements of engraving are visible

In some cases, painstaking work is required to recreate the original appearance of valuable items, in which case simple technologies for cleaning rare items at home will come in handy.

Soviet coin cleaning

The trifle and rubles of the times of the USSR took their place in the collections of numismatists, they were released quite a while ago and some of them have changed significantly. Without the necessary care, these specimens can lose their attractiveness and depreciate; cleaning will make it possible to preserve rare specimens.

Chemical compounds without the necessary skills to use them can damage coins, and it is often difficult to get them, but a composition of tooth powder or toothpaste, with the addition of soda and ammonia can effectively remove all dirt. It is permissible to mix a lot of dry composition in advance and store it in an airtight container and when you need to take the required amount for cleaning products. After processing, the coin should be wiped well with a cloth and washed with warm water, and then dried.

Soda water solution is suitable for removing various contaminants. It is necessary to lower the coin into it for several hours, it should become shiny and clean, then rinse and dry.

Another method allows you to clean the product in a few seconds. To do this, in a solution of a glass of water and 0.5 tsp. the coin is lowered, then it is washed and wiped with a soft and dry cloth. The coin should not be kept in citric acid for too long so as not to damage the alloy.

How to clean copper coins

In order not to clean and damage such coins, you can use these methods:

1. Dissolve the laundry soap in a plastic container (dip the soap shavings in very hot water), after the soap becomes liquid, a jelly-like mixture is obtained, coins are lowered into it and left to stand for two days. After that, they are well washed and dried, if necessary, you can perform this procedure again, until the coins are clean. So gradually all traces of the oxidized metal are removed from the surface, the coin is not damaged, and becomes clean;

2. Prepare a soap solution as in the above method, but add a little soda dissolved in pure water to it, this activates the cleaning of the surface of the coins. After cleaning, the product must be washed from soap residues and coated with liquid paraffin. After this, the coin will not oxidize and the dirt on it will not linger;

3. You can use 30% citric acid solution for cleaning, this composition quickly updates the surface of the coin. To maintain the instance that needs to be cleaned, it is necessary for 5-10 minutes, then remove from the solution, rinse well and dry. Metal as a result of such processing may turn pinkish, but this shade will last no more than a month;

4. Boil copper specimens in oil, preferably petroleum jelly. Boiling must not be stopped until the whole coin is cleared, then rinse it with ethanol;

5. Heavily soiled coins can be carefully cleaned in caustic soda diluted in cold water. With tweezers, the product is dipped in caustic soda and incubated for 5-10 minutes, after which it is washed well. If a green or blue color appears on the surface of a coin, the procedure must be stopped; therefore, this product cannot be cleaned in this way;

Bronze coins

Copies made of bronze can be cleaned in different ways, you can use soda solution or citric acid, apply trilon and ammonia for this, only after processing it is necessary to apply toothpaste to the product, and then wash it with water. This will make it possible to eliminate the dark spots that appear on bronze when exposed to these compounds.

It is not necessary to use mixtures with sulfuric and nitric acids for cleaning bronze; such compositions are suitable only for severely damaged or low-value coins. If during the cleaning of the surface a noble patina was removed from the old product, it is restored with sulfuric ointment, first the bronze product is covered with liquid paraffin, then the toothbrush is coated with sulfuric ointment and placed under a small stream of warm water. The surface to be treated will begin to darken as a result of the formation of a protective layer. The ointment remaining after processing is washed off with soap and water.

How to clean silver coins

It is more difficult to remove traces of oxidation from silver coins. It is necessary to take into account the features of this metal, before cleaning, you need to find out the alloy sample. If the product is made of silver with a sample of more than 625, then use a silbertaushbader to clean it. This is a special composition that is best suited for this, a solution of ammonia can help. For cleaning, also use acid fixer used by amateur photographers. Silver items of low sample are cleaned by dropping for 2 hours in freshly squeezed lemon juice, by the way, and simple baking soda can help when cleaning any silver items. It is moisturized to a mushy state and simply wiped with this composition - the oxidized places will disappear.

Old coins - how else can they be cleaned

To bring heavily contaminated earth into decent Vidzar coins, they are boiled in a soda solution. To do this, add a tablespoon of soda in 200 ml of water. Boil a coin for 30-35 minutes, if the result does not live up to your expectations, you can carry out the procedure several times.

What coins are not desirable to clean?

Individual copies should not be cleaned, if the coin is covered with an even layer of patina without signs of oxidation and chips, it is enough to wash it with warm soapy water. Dust and dirt will be removed, you only need to dry the coin. Deep cleaning, unless absolutely necessary, can ruin a coin.
