For women who enjoy sports, the results of a new study may come as a surprise and disappointment. Regular exercise, the study says, does not fully reduce the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle.

Women who regularly play sports actually spend as much time sitting as those who are indifferent to sports, and thus may also be at greater risk of developing diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and premature death.

The study involved more than 90 healthy women aged 40 to 75 years, who for seven days wore devices that measured periods of sitting, standing, walking and other physical activities. Although study participants spent an average of 146 minutes a week on moderate or vigorous physical activity, they still spent most of their waking hours (63%) sitting. The time spent on training was only about 2%.

Now people lead a sedentary lifestyle. This is not to say that everyone suddenly became lazy and stupid. The reason is that a lot has changed in the environment. We communicate for a long time and do this sitting. Even in the workplace, we use e-mail instead of talking to a person live. We do not go to stores, but order things online.

In addition to regular sports, scientists are advised to use during the day any opportunity to get up and walk. “Set a timer that will remind you of this every hour,” they suggest. - "Get up when talking on the phone. Get up during commercial breaks when watching TV. Walk a few blocks, swing the child on a swing, refuse the elevator."
